Tonsillectomy

Luke had his tonsils and adnoids out on June 23. This was the first time that one of our children has had surgery and gone under anaesthesia. We left the other 3 kids in the care of our 18 year old next door neighbor and were to the hospital by 7:15am. We surprised Luke with this huge, stuffed Mario. He was thrilled and excited by the attention. It was kind of sad seeing him happy knowing that he didn't know what was coming. The hospital staff was excellent at working with Luke and helping him to feel as comfortable as possible. The two pictures above are right before they gave him his "bed ride" down the hall to go to sleep. It was unsettling watching him go down the hall without us but we pleased that Mario got to go with him. It has been a challenging week of recovery. We were told that days 5-7 were the hardest and that was true for us. Saturday was an extra hard day. He hasn't slept well the past few days and is often in incredible pain. His appetite is gone because his throat hurts too bad to eat. The good news is that the past two days have been better. We are still in the thick of recovery and I'm hoping that he will feel well enough to eat soon. We are hopeful that Luke will have improvement with his speach, eating and asthma issues.
