Christmas Day

We had a pretty great Christmas day. Last year I went a bit crazy with purchasing lots of toys for the kids. I looked back and realized it was too much and pretty much and autistic nightmare for Sean. We simplified our Christmas quite a bit this year and I am very pleased by the outcome. Mark and I purchased new remotes and games for the wii. We now have 4 remotes and have had way too much fun playing as a family. The kids received one gift from Santa. Santa gave them their most prized item that they had asked them for. This made our Christmas morning very calm.

Sean received his "mack with a silver trailer" that he had been wanting for two months. Luke was thrilled with his train!
Claire was excited to add to her My Little Pony collection with a prized Princess Twilight Sparkle pony.
Kaylin was exhausted and sick but managed to open her blanket and dolly.

Claire and Sean loved on our new Holland Lop bunny Peaches
Kaylin was excited to open/suck on  her present from Grandma and Grandpa Hamblin
Grandma and Grandpa Luke stopped by in the afternoon bringing fun gifts for the kids. Kaylin was happy to sit in Grandma's lap the whole time. She snuggled into her Grandma. It was really sweet.
Here they are opening the last presents of the day. Sean rocked Christmas this year! I am so proud of him! Sean has matured so much this year. His Christmas season last year was stressful and frustrating for him. He had a few rough moments on Christmas day but overall was happy and coped with the stress and lack of routine. It's exciting to see Sean's progress and to see his so happy. Go Sean!
We had a great Christmas this year. We maximized our celebrating with fun parties, lights, Christmas concerts and family. We are grateful for our family members who love and support us. We are fortunate to have income and to be able to provide a nice Christmas for our children. Due to Kaylin's injury we spent most of the last 2 weeks of December home trying to keep her as comfortable as possible. The week she broke her leg was packed full of so many activities. I cancelled everything so she and I could stay home in our jammies and focus on her needs. In the midst of the chaos of Christmas I had a chance to slow down and let the business go and focus on our sweet, injured daughter. I am grateful for my little family and to be able to celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Christmas Eve

We had a calm, relaxing day at home together on Christmas Eve. Mark and the kids played outside in the snow.

Mark and I had all the presents wrapped and everything ready for Christmas. The house was clean and we anticipated an early bedtime for everyone.
Here are the boys dancing.

We had a lovely Christmas Eve dinner with my parents, 2 brothers and their families and our favorite New Orleans family. My sister-in-law provided a yummy dinner. Baby Kaylin was not feeling well. Mark and I spent the day holding her. It was such a blessing to not have to host or travel on this night. I am most grateful for my brother and his wife for having us over. I appreciate the Spirit that was present as testimonies of the Savior were born. What a special night!

                                              I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE LONDON!!
Luke passed out in the car on the way home and was put into bed. Claire and Sean were excited to put out cookies and milk for Santa. Thank goodness Santa likes Oreos. These two were excited to go to sleep. This was an extra fun Christmas for our big kids.
We surprised the kids with a pet bunny named Peaches. Mark and I picked her out the Saturday before Christmas and brought her home the morning before. Here she is getting acquainted with her surroundings after the kids went to bed.
Here is everything ready to go! Kaylin is helping by eating a bow. Mark, Kaylin and I were all sick at this point. Mark went to bed around 10:30. Unfortunately Kaylin wouldn't let us put her down in her crib. We tried 6 different times only to have her wake up crying. I finally curled up with her in my big chair and let her sleep in my lap. I proceeding to sleep very, very little this night. It was frustrating knowing that even with my best efforts to be prepared I can't plan for everything. I am most grateful for a sweet baby to loose sleep for. She has had the worst time with her broken leg and being sick.

Broken Baby

Sunday morning we laid Kaylin down for a nap before church. Mark and I were in our bathroom getting ready to go when we heard her screaming. Mark rushed in to find Kaylin on the floor screaming. We had not moved her mattress to the lower setting of the crib. I had no idea that she could pull herself up and over. She was inconsolable for an hour. I called the oncall nurse who told us to watch for signs of concussion or broken limbs. I stayed home with her while Mark took the three big kids to Primary. Kaylin was fine as long as we held her. She would wince in pain and grab a hold of us when we adjusted her wrong. We still weren't sure what was wrong at that point. I always thought that a child would be in constant pain and agony with a broken bone. Kaylin would cheer up and even smile at times. We decided to attend my family's Christmas party. Kaylin finally fell asleep in Mark's arms. We held her the entire time and she seemed okay. When we returned home Mark set her down to see if she could crawl. She screamed and frantically moved her left leg. It was apparent that she couldn't move her right leg. We got the big kids to sleep and called our neighbor to come sit with them while we headed out to the ER. Everyone was very kind to us at the hospital. Kaylin gave everyone smiles and they would stop talking to us so they could talk to her. She is a flirt! The worst part of this experience was when the doctor did his exam. We were not totally sure where she was hurting. She was in totally agony when he found the injury. She sobbed with big tears. Here is Mark after consoling her. The second worse part was taking xrays. Mark had to hold her down so they could get clear shots. We were in shock when the doctor showed us the 2 fractures in her femur. We had let the poor girl hang out for 12 hours with a broken femur. We don't know how she made it through that day. We feel awful for knowing it was our fault the injury occurred. This has been a bit traumatic for all of us.
At this point we were able to give her pain medication and they put a splint on her leg. She cheered up and seemed to really enjoy having her leg stabilized.
We returned home around midnight with a naked, sore, exhausted baby girl. The hospital gave us this polk-a-dot blanket and we have used it almost exclusively this week.
They encouraged us to sleep with her the first night. Mark and I didn't sleep much but she was able to rest in our arms. This is the saddest picture.
Mark stayed home on Monday morning to help me get her to the doctor. They unwrapped her leg and determined it was too swollen to put a cast on. They put the original splint back on from the hospital. Kaylin was in a lot of pain this day. She wanted to be down crawling but would wince in pain. I held her for much of the day. We gave her infant Lortab Monday to help her sleep.

She felt much better Tuesday morning after having slept almost 12 hours. Here she is playing ponies with Claire who had stayed home with a cold.

Mark came home Tuesday afternoon to help me take her back to the doctor's office. We met with the orthopedic surgeon and had more xrays taken. This experience is so traumatic for Kaylin and Mark. He hates holding his princess down and causing her pain and anxiety. The doctor pointed out that the originally splint was too short and stopped right above the fracture causing her pain. How frustrating to know that the very thing meant to help her was causing her trauma. The doctor wanted to try a longer splint instead of a cast. The new splint goes all the way up to her bottom giving her maximum stability and more comfort than a traditional cast. Sean is disappointed that she doesn't get a cast he can draw on. I'm sure he envisioned following her around with a sharpie!
Here are the xrays from yesterday. In the one above you can see the brake on the left side of the femur towards the bottom of the bone. On the picture below you can see the horizontal fracture at roughly the same place. I LOVE the baby chub of her bum and thigh on the picture above as well as her onsie snap.
Here is Kaylin with her new splint. She has only ever been able to army crawl which is the perfect technique for a broken leg. She crawls around dragging her bad leg behind her. She is happiest when her leg can't move and I think this splint supports her injury well. She has been super happy today. We only give her tylenol for pain and she was able to take a nap on her own in her crib today.
It's still hard to believe that our baby girl has this serious of an injury. She has experienced levels of pain that no little baby should have to endure. She is at the mercy of parents who make mistakes. We are grateful that she didn't have a head or neck injury but a double fractured femur isn't the best thing either. I think the worst is over and hopefully everything heals well.

Luke family Christmas Party

 Beautiful Angel Claire
Ever responsible Joseph

 Kaylin Cow
We always knew she was an angel!
Kaylin fell out of her crib this morning. Little did we know that she had a fractured femur. We went to the ER after the party. She was a trouper the whole day. This was the only time she slept. It was a rough day.
Luke wanted to be an angel like his big sister. This is the sweetest angel ever!
I love this pouty angel. Too funny!
 It was crazy!
The Luke family Christmas party is one of my favorite nights of the year. I love my siblings and am grateful for our friendships. There is always a nice feeling when we are together. I appreciate everyone's support for our little family and love my parents for hosting in their fun clubhouse! Can't wait til next year!

Santa/Ward Christmas Party

We saw Santa at Maceys. There was no line and no charge and no one waiting.  We had a lot of fun with Santa. Sean marched right up to Santa and said, "I got a big list." He wanted to make sure he had Santa's full attention. He then proceeded to ask Santa for a new couch. Sean always snuggles on our loveseat and his legs are getting too long for it. He would like a bigger couch. Santa told us he's pretty sure that was his first request for a couch. It was too funny.
Here is Lukey in the middle of asking Santa for a train.
Claire wants a Princess Twilight Sparkle Pony
Here is Kaylin trying to figure him out
Getting ready to play in the snow
Sean's teachers painted his nose red for Rudolf. He stayed this way all weekend and sobbed when Mark washed his nose off for church.
